Reps shared how their approach is simple as it offers personalized care from people who care, listens to their members and creates solutions to help them reach the best version of themselves. Signs of being deeply invested in towns and cities across the country, supporting and improving the community.

President Shashi Malik gave recap on all past events conducted during the year. To name but a few (a) Diwali sponsorship of all food for the Town of Hempstead where talent and culture from the entire South Asian community was showcased, (b) The recent Domestic Violence Advocacy Training Program held on November 12 & 13 by Sujata Warrier, PhD, Chief Strategy Officer at Battered Women’s Justice Project, and (c) Hundreds of backpacks donated in the Summer to the Nassau County Juvenile Detention Center.

Key in Seva’ work was training 12 members to help victims of domestic violence and abuse. A domestic violence victim advocate is a professional who provides vital support to victims of domestic violence. Domestic violence includes physical, emotional, sexual, or psychological abuse inflicted by a spouse, intimate partner, or cohabitant. A story was shared by President Malik on how the program was able to offer assistance to a woman who ran away to her home in Pakistan for fear of her life.

Like past events, this event also presented donations to the Nassau County Juvenile Detention Center for their female offenders, delivery of boxes of feminine products.  In attendance were two representatives and they expressed their gratitude for Seva’s kindness and caring atmosphere.

President acknowledged the service of its members and presented each with flowers and words of gratitude for their invaluable service. The true symbol of a leader!

While the presentation was going on, members of the NYPD, and District Attorney (DA) office all gathered. On hearing of the Domestic Violence Training Advocacy Program by Seva, Officer Joy and District Attorney’s Office representatives shared some of the resources and information available for partnering with Seva. The Suffolk District Attorney’s office hosts, supports, and attends community events throughout the year in order to provide an important presence to the community, making community members aware that we are here to listen and to help work with them to unite the community against violence.
